Adversity is unique in a way since its not only the news bearer of dark days, but it can also serve as a black hole to all sources of hope, light and strength. A person afflicted with tough times may find it easier to believe that they have no choice in the matter anymore or the power to control their fate, when, in fact, they do. A prayer in such dark days serves as a hint of light at the end of the tunnel. Each time a person raises their hands to pray, their hope for a better tomorrow is raised as well. Step by step, through each prayer, they are able to reflect on a situation they thought would be impossible to break through. As they interpret the situation and self-reflect, they realize their strengths and weaknesses.
In a way, prayers give us the ability to find a contingency plan and render us with a sight to see through the worst of situations with an open mind set. This mind set is a gift since it sheds away the dark clouds of self-doubt and uncertainty. They are soon able to find a way out of the toughest of times with the support of none other but themselves. The persistence and self-reliance imparted during prayers instills a spirit of finding new ways and opportunities to move on with life and remove any reminiscence of adversity. Soon the person is free from the shackles of their fears and is determined to not only find new ways but stick through them and do better.
